![]() If you should want to know what happens, hit us up on Twitter and we'll spoil it for you all the livelong day. Of course, you can always not heed out advice and waste your time and money on this terribly made, poorly thought out, trashily constructed, half-witted attempt at a mystery like we did, but don't say we didn't warn you. We can't tell you everything wrong with "Shut In" without spoiling its moronic plot, so you will just have to trust us when we say it's bad. She yells the name of the deaf child in this movie multiple times. Up until this point, the movie is a repetitive bore as Naomi Watts walks around from place to place having one banal conversation after another, putting her goddamn tea mug down a thousand times and opening and shutting doors at least once per minute while screaming a deaf kid's name. What's worse is it isn't until the twist that anything at all happens. It's obvious that the director and screenwriter thought they were being soOoOoOoOoOo clever with this twist, thinking the audience would love it, when back here on earth and in reality, we literally laughed out loud, groaned uncontrollably, rolled our eyes, and nearly fell asleep at how dumb it was. It is utterly stupid in every conceivable way, and the inane twist is so laughably bad, we don't know if we'll ever forgive Naomi Watts for taking part in such a shit-show. On top of this, the story is one of the most mindless, imbecilic, drawn out stories in recent memory. Raccoons walking out from underneath piles of wood aren't scary no matter how loud the soundtrack gets, sorry about it. He uses ridiculous jump scares to startle the audience, but every attempt absolutely fails. Blackburn's attempts at tension are absolutely ridiculous and so inept, it's like he's never made a movie in his life. It's also supposed to be a mystery, but the mystery comes from so far out of left field, it's like it was pieced together from other better films in an attempt to be edgy and new when in reality, it's simpleminded, lazy, and expected. It is supposed to be dramatic film, but there is not one ounce of drama in its 91 minute run time. We don't like to curse too terribly often in our movie reviews, but holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, "Shut In" is a miserable slog of a movie! This film is suppose to be a thriller, but it is not one iota thrilling. When Tom shows up at Mary's home unannounced and then suddenly disappears, Mary is tormented by the thought of what happened to him, especially when she starts to see things she can't explain. Joining them is Jacob Tremblay, who plays a patient of Mary's named Tom, a deaf child living in the foster care system. It stars Naomi Watts as Mary Portman, a child psychologist whose life is changed when her husband is killed and her stepson Stephen, played by Charlie Heaton, is severely disabled in a tragic car accident. "Shut In" is a dramatic mystery thriller directed by Farren Blackburn and is written by Christina Hodson.
